As we reach the end of the college football regular season the weather karma seems to be as backwards as the convoluted BCS standings. The Football Bowl Subdivision games will have decent weather on this first weekend in December, while the weather for the division that actually decides its champion on the field (Football Championship Subdivision) will be downright dismal.
The FCS has four playoff games this weekend, and trying to pick the worst weather game of this bunch is easy! All of them! Richmond travels to Boone, NC to take on three-time defending champion Appalachian State in a game that will likely see snow showers in the second half. Be careful traveling to Missoula, MT for Weber State at Montana. A winter weather advisory is in effect for freezing rain on Saturday morning. Although there is a chance of snow during the game, the icy conditions on the roadways will make travel to the game difficult. Villanova heads down I-81 to Harrisonburg, VA to play James Madison amidst rain showers that could become snow showers by games' end. The "Wow, Am I Glad I am Not at This Game!" award goes to New Hampshire at Northern Iowa in Cedar Rapids where temperatures will be dropping into the teens with a biting wind and blowing snow.
The FBS games will have weather that is tame by comparison with 70s for both the USC-UCLA game in Los Angeles and the Boston College-Virginia Tech ACC title game in Tampa. Temperatures in the mid 30s will be the conditions for the annual Army-Navy game. Hopefully, the rain and snow showers expected in Philly on Saturday will hold off until after that classic game ends.
This will be our last Game Day Radar blog until the Bowl Season gets going in earnest later in December. In the meantime, the Fox Weather Bloggers will be looking at the weather version of the BCS (Bitter Cold Systems) computers. If you think the college football version of the BCS is messed up, wait until you see what our Bitter Cold System computers have in store for you over the next couple of weeks!
And if your favorite college football team is not playing this weekend, you might want to think about taking the time to wrap your pipes and make bitter cold weather preparations! Santa may not be the only visitor from the North Pole this December!
Don't forget to check back for Nick's NFL blog, and if you have any questions about the impending frigid conditions in the next couple of weeks, let us know! We will be happy to answer them as best we can!
