For the first time in several weeks the Pac 10 games will get a break from adverse weather! This week the weather will switch sides with a major low pressure system primed to be the game changer across the eastern half of the country. This storm system will bring snow to the Big 10, blustery winds to the Big 12 and thundershowers and the chance of severe weather to the ACC.
The image below is the rainfall expected in the six hours between 1pm and 7pm EST, when most of the east coast games are in progress.
In the Big 10, bundle up for Ohio St at Illinois, Purdue at Iowa, and Northwestern at Michigan. Fans at these games will experience snow showers, strong winds and temperatures in the 30s.
In the Big 12, blustery winds with gusts over 30 miles per hour will certainly affect the pass-happy offenses in the Texas at Kansas, Nebraska at Kansas State, and Missouri at Iowa State games.
In the ACC, the front that is ushering the colder temperatures and windy conditions into the Great Plains and Great Lakes will be increasing the severe thunderstorm potential for North Carolina at Maryland and Wake Forest at NC State. Nearby, the Notre Dame - Navy game being played in Baltimore will also run the risk of showers and severe weather.
There is still one more game to put on the weather list. It looks like there is a chance that this same cold front will sweep through Gainesville, FL with a brief chance of rain showers and a significant wind shift, possibly during the South Carolina - Florida game. If the front hasn't arrived by half time, an astute coach with some weather savvy might be able to take the wind in both the third and fourth quarters!
NASCAR
The front sweeping through the eastern half of the country will have cleared Homestead, Fla by race time for Sunday's final race of the NASCAR season. Conditions for the Ford 400 will be windy, with a strong gusty north wind in the 20-25 mph range. If you are headed to a game this weekend and want more information about the weather, feel free to post here. Don't forget to check out Nick's NFL game day blog on Sunday!
