November has arrived and that means changing your clocks back in accordance with the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Yes, I know that many of you are thinking, "wait, we have been doing this 'spring forward' and 'fall backwards' clock exercise for a lot longer than three years!"
You are correct! In fact, if you excel in chronology, you know that we have been changing our clocks in the U.S. since March 31, 1918. So where does the Energy Policy Act of 2005 come in? This Act extended Daylight Saving Time, which now begins on the second Sunday of March and ends this weekend, on the first Sunday of November. I wonder if we could get our currently campaigning congresspeople to pass a similar law extending the baseball season?
Speaking of turning back the clock. Have you seen the top of the College Football polls? Texas, Alabama, Penn State. Those three haven't shared a place in the Top 5 since Nixon was president, which ironically was when the Emergency Daylight Saving Time Energy Conservation Act of 1973 was passed. That Act, enabled during one of our nation's most memorable energy crises, moved the start of Daylight Saving Time into February. Ahhh, February! Only 107 more days until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training!

A vigorous storm system entering the U.S. west coast will place two games on the FumbleFest of the Week list. The first to "bear" the brunt of weather more suitable for "ducks" will be Pac 10 clash between Oregon and California. Bay Area neighbor Stanford will also be wishing they could turn their weather clocks to a more favorable setting as rain could be heavy during their game with Washington State. College football games across the rest of the nation on Saturday appear to have been timed perfectly with another break in the sequencing of storm systems that could get much more active across the nation just in time for Election Day. Expected rainfall amounts for Saturday are on the map below.

In keeping with our "turn back the clock" theme, the weather for the Sprint Cup Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in Alliance, TX on Sunday will be more like late September than early November. A sun-splashed 82F will greet spectators for this third to last race for the Cup.
By the way, did you know that the Energy Policy Act of 2005 allows for Congress to return Daylight Saving Time to its original first Sunday of April to the last Sunday of October time frame? But only if the current version "should prove unpopular or if energy savings are not significant." How do you feel about the current Daylight Saving Time format? Do you have a better idea? Here's my idea. We need a "Baseball Policy Act of Right Now" that shortens this horrifying five-month period between games that count! And don't forget to check back for Nick's NFL weather blog on Sunday!
