I'm here in Phoenix, AZ at the 89th annual American Meteorological Society conference. Kevin is also here this week and we have had some time to chat about the conference, the weather, and everything that is going on here on the FOX Weather site. Already, just a few days into the conference I have found an underlying theme to everything that is going on this week. Although the official theme is "Urban Weather and Climate: Now and in the Future" (be sure to check out Kevin's blog for the basics on the conference), I would argue that the theme could be something like this "It's All About You!" The you I am refering to is you the reader, the general public. For instance, on Sunday the AMS helped sponsor what is called WeatherFest. Companies, organizations, and government agencies from all over the US and even the world invited the general public to come together and learn about the weather. There were games, big screen TVs, science experiments, raffles, and even penguins and alligators! This is one of the more visible aspects of the conference, however, I have recognized this passion for helping people understand and learn about the weather all week. The presentations and meetings cover nearly every topic you can think of (and many I did not even think of) from satellites to hurricanes to weather in the courtroom. But as I looked deeper into these topics I noticed that nearly every single one has been focused on how to make the weather forecasts for the public better, how to make certain we know the most about the impacts of climate change, how to make sure we know what the public needs, and how to communicate the science to the public. This is also the whole reason we are hear at FOX Weather, to answer your questions and let you know how the weather impacts your lives. So check out the AMS website, ask a question on our Forum, or just read some more of our blogs - It's All About You!
